Sofija R. L. Sutton
Sofija R. L. Sutton, hails from New Hampshire, USA. She completed her BFA in Painting at Boston University, USA and her MFA in Fine Arts at Newcastle University, UK. Growing up in the forest, near to nature, often plays a foundation role in her practices to serve as the basis for metaphors about human emotion, such as, belonging and mental health. Her multidisciplinary practice mixes narratives with video, sculpture, painting, and installations, aiming for interactive and multi-sensory experiences. Last three years, her traveling has influenced her works. She enjoys creating site-responsive work, incorporating her research and community workshops. Sutton’s contributions to ‘WE’, a शब्द/ شبد ( śabd ) a narrative story, inspired by folk tales and the illuminated manuscripts of the Book of Kells pairing the pages with a split screen abstract video that pairs the ancient-style illustrations with present-day visuals.
